Our Interests

SKIING- Gunnar is a ski instructor at Loon Mountain on the weekends. He had the same wonderful adult seasonal class for years. Our January rowing has made it necessary for him to scale down the time time spent as an adult seasonal instructor and will serve as a substitute after our return from rowing. He has been a certified ski instructor since 1972 and has been skiing for about 65 years.

WOODWORKING- Gunnar loves to spend any free time working with wood and has recently remodeled their living room using home grown very wide pine boards on the walls and prefinished bamboo on the floor.

GARDENING- We have a big garden which is lots of work, and lots of fun. Gunnar specializes in blueberries, raspberries, kiwis, and pumpkins. Heather plants all kinds of vegetables, with flowers between the rows.

COOKING- Other than Sunday breakfast now and then when Gunnar makes his world famous scrambled eggs or perfect pancakes, Heather does the cooking and does it so well that Gunnar needs to row very far to work it off!

WATER CONSERVATION- Gunnar's career interest in Water Efficient Plumbing started while he was teaching school.  He has been a pioneer in promoting the use of low consumption toilets and other fixtures to reduce our impact on the environment. He is now active in the Green Building movement as a member of the US Green Building Council's Water Efficiency Technological Advisory Group among other activities to increase the awareness of the need for more efficient use of potable water.

DAMIEN HOUSE- After visiting this hospital for Hansen's disease (leprosy) several times while helping with a Project Perfect World medical mission in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Heather became a director. In 2004 Both Heather and Gunnar spent a week at Damien House with her brother's family painting murals on the dreary walls of this place while entertaining the patients. This experience moved us seriously and we try to give to help this hospital and the work of Sister Anne Credidio who started it whenever possible. The visit inspired a poem which is included in the poem collection under Thought Puddles.

KAYAKING - We both like to spend time in the summer exploring swamps and other hidden places in our double touring kayak.

KIPPER!! - Heather is attending basic obedience classes with Kipper. They both enjoy their lessons and all the practice involved. Kipper is a fantastic pup. He is full of energy and very loving. Needless to say, we both miss him very much when we are rowing and he is at home.
